Humantay Lake stands as one of the most breathtaking natural landmarks in Peru. Fed by the pristine glacial meltwaters of the towering Mt. Humantay, its brilliant turquoise waters offer a landscape of extraordinary beauty hidden deep within the Vilcabamba mountain range.
At Andean Bear Journeys, we have masterfully designed this experience so you can explore this iconic destination with the absolute comfort, safety, and tailored attention that define our exclusive services.
Your day begins with a private pickup from your Cusco hotel between 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM. Boarding our premium tour vehicle, you will enjoy a scenic two-hour drive to the picturesque village of Mollepata, where we will stop for a carefully prepared breakfast to fuel your adventure.
Following breakfast, we continue our drive toward Soraypampa, the gateway to the world-renowned Salkantay Trek. Along this mountain road, you will be surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery, deep valleys, and front-row views of the majestic Mt. Salkantay and Mt. Humantay—both deeply revered as sacred peaks in Andean cosmology.
Upon arriving in Soraypampa (12,800 ft / 3,900 m), your expert guide will provide a brief orientation before we begin a steady uphill trek of approximately 1.5 hours.
The trail ascends gradually through rugged mountain ridges, ravines, and sweeping high-altitude plains, offering increasingly spectacular vistas until you reach the magnificent Humantay Lake, perched at over 13,770 feet (4,200 m) above sea level.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the lake’s striking turquoise waters—a stunning natural phenomenon caused by the rich mineral sediments washing down from the crowning glacier.
You will have plenty of time to explore this privileged setting, absorb the landscape, capture unforgettable photographs, and connect with the absolute serenity of this natural sanctuary. Your guide will share insights into the history, geology, and profound spiritual meaning this sacred site holds for local Andean communities.
After taking in this unique scenery, we will begin our descent back to Soraypampa and return to Mollepata, where a delicious lunch prepared with fresh, regional ingredients awaits.
Finally, we will head back to the city of Cusco, dropping you off at your hotel or preferred location at approximately 5:00 PM.
